The project work aims to introduce innovative and integrated methods of land, water and plants to improve the agriculture sector through appropriate water management techniques and soil conservation practices.

    Summary: This project aims to enhance knowledge and improve access to information on climate change in 20 rural communities in Sub-Saharan Africa through the sponsoring of post-primary schools’ debating contests and video screening. The area faces geographical problems from soil erosion, abuse of woodland for fuel, deforestation, increasing unreliable rainfall, and oil pipeline vandalism with poor access to electricity, good roads, pipe-borne water and infrastructure for social development.

    Engaging community radio in climate change adaptation research and advocacy in Africa. This project supports pioneering community radio stations in Ghana to share the latest climate change research with local policymakers and local communities, in formats that they can understand and use. Importantly, these radio stations will also be a platform for communities to share their valuable knowledge with each other and with others – giving a clearer picture of what women, men and children are already doing in their daily lives to adapt to a changing climate.

    ACCRA is an exciting and ambitious consortium working to improve our understanding of adaptive capacity. It is made up of Oxfam GB, the Overseas Development Institute (ODI), Save the Children Alliance, Care International and World Vision International and funded by DFID. We have developed an innovative adaptive capacity framework which we are currently consulting on. We are carrying out research on existing Disaster Risk Reduction, Social Protection and Livelihoods programme interventions in Ethiopia, Uganda and Mozambique.

  • Training Workshop on Climate Change Reporting for Journalists

    Summary: The proposed project will involve building the capacity of journalists to practice effective climate change journalism that will enhance the role of media in climate change reporting. About 40 Ethiopian journalists will participate in the training workshop. The training will be organized in close collaboration with the Ethiopian Civil Societies Network on Climate Change (ECSNCC). During the two day training period, the journalists will listen to presentations that address the main themes of climate change. They further will hear from fellow media practitioners on how to remain up-to-date and accurate in the face of a dynamic subject and with limited resources to attend all major meetings. In addition to that, trainees will receive an orientation on new media and use of ICTs e.g. use of digital recorders to provide material for YouTube, podcasts, and to develop social media skills e.g. writing blogs, making use of twitter etc.
